It was the kind of day that so many of us have. Adam was on his laptop at the kitchen table trying to deal with a particularly stressful day at work. “There was a bit of a work fire and the texts and emails just kept coming in.” he says. “I really needed to focus, think things through, respond to emails and make a few calls.” The problem, however, was that he couldn’t find a quiet space to hunker down and focus. “My toddler was screaming, my wife was listening to her music on the stereo, and there was nowhere in the house I could go to deal with the task at hand.”

He started searching for a studio shed to put in the backyard where he could set up a home office, but found a lot to be desired. “They all looked really cool at first glance, but as I dug into the specs I realized that they were pieces of junk.” Adam’s background in energy efficiency and high-end home building lead him to build his own backyard office to his high standards. “I used building techniques that are generally reserved only for the highest end custom builds.” Why? Because he knew the difference it would make. “It’s absolutely silent inside, and incredibly comfortable. Those are the first two things people point out when they first step inside.”

His experience building his own Space inspired him to start Marigold. Launching in spring 2024, Marigold focuses on backyard studios that use the best of the best in framing, insulation and mechanical systems, minimize construction waste, are energy efficient and utilize materials that are environmentally sustainable and healthy for the inhabitants.
